Fugitive Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho is believed to be staying in China as he had allegedly moved unfettered within the country recently, a report citing sources has said.

According to Sin Chew Daily article, it said that Low Taek Jho who is wanted for involvement in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal had recently traveled between Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing and Hainan Island. Thus it is believe that Low Taek Jho is roaming in China.

The article said that the Malaysian police are still actively working with China’s public police to locate Low Taek Jho, however China have yet to pinpoint his exact whereabouts.

Low Taek Jho’s Malaysian passport has been canceled by Malaysia last year 15 June 2019, and the island nation of St Kitts and Nevis has also deactivated his passport. According to the article INTERPOL has issued a Red Notice for Low Taek Jho.

According to reports, Low Taek Jho owns a resident card and luxury Home in Hong Kong. His company in Hong Kong is believed to still be operating.

The article further said that it believes Malaysia Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad is likely to seek China’s help to help track down Low Taek Jho during the upcoming second summit on China’s Belt and Road initiative in Bejing held on 26-27 Apr 2019.

Earlier this month in April 2019, it was announced that the superyacht Equanimity is to be sold to Genting Malaysia Bhd at the price of USD 126 million.

This is the first major asset sale by by Kuala Lumpur in attempts to recover money lost from the 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB) fund.
