Twin bombs strike at Roman Catholic cathedral in southern Philippines island of Jolo have killed at least 20 people and dozens more injured on 27 Jan 2019 (Sunday).
The first explosion went off inside the cathedral on Jolo island, in Sulu province during Sunday mass.
The second explosion went off as soldiers were responding to the initial attack at the scene.
The attack comes days after a majority-Muslim area in the region voted for greater autonomy in a referendum.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but police suspect the bombings were the work of Abu Sayyaf, a group that has pledged allegiance to Islamic State.
Police and military reports said the casualties included both troops and civilians.
