Flights delayed at Changi Airport due to the suspension of one runway caused by unauthorized drones flying around the vicinity of the Airport on Tuesday and Wednesday (18 and 19 Jun 2019), said the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on Wednesday.
The affected runway had its operations suspended between 18 Jun 2019 11pm to 19 Jun 2019 9am. During this time Singapore Changi Airport continued its operation with one runway.
“To ensure the safety of aircraft operations and passengers, flight operations on one of the Changi Airport runways was suspended for short periods between 11pm on 18 Jun and before 9am this morning.” was announced on Singapore’s Ministry of Defense Facebook page.
Due to this incident, 37 flights were delayed while one flight was diverted to Malaysia Kuala Lumpur.
“The authorities take a serious view of errant operations of unmanned aircraft which may pose threats to aviation or endanger the personal safety of others, and will not hesitate to take enforcement action against those who contravene regulations.” warned the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) on their Facebook page.
Offenders could face a fine not exceeding $20,000 or imprisonment for a term of up to 12 months, or both.
Investigations are still ongoing.
