Barack Obama the Stand-in Santa visits Children’s National Hospital

This Christmas Season, Former President Barack Obama visited the Children’s National hospital in Washington to deliver gifts to the children and families while wearing a Santa Claus hat.

Among the gifts the former president brought were jigsaw puzzles, toy car sets, remote control cars, glittery nail polish and other.

Many of the hospitalized patients were surprised to see the Former President appearance at the hospital.

Former President Barack Obama said to the hospital crowd, “As a dad of two girls, I can only imagine in that situation, to have nurses and staff and doctors and people who are caring for them and looking after them and listening to them and just there for them and holding their hand. That’s the most important thing there is, what a great reminder of what the holiday spirit is supposed to be all about.”

On Twitter the Former President tweeted his happy holidays to the kids , families and staff for thanking him as their ‘stand-in Santa’.

Meet the man who orchestrated the “Money can fall from the sky” stunt on 15 Dec 2018 in Hong Kong. Wong Ching Kit, a 24 year old man from Hong Kong and the owner of Facebook page Epoch Cryptocurrency. He is also known as the 幣少爺 (Bì shàoyé) “Coin Young Master”.

From his Facebook page, we learn more interesting facts about Wong.

First we see a photo of him and a large group of followers who seem to be wearing the same black shirt. His nick name 幣少爺 is also written on the building.

Seems he is offering lessons on BitCoin Mining teaching in classrooms or server rooms. Most of the students appear to in their 20s or 30s.

Not only is he giving lessons, he also seems to be building and selling BitCoin mining machine rigs. He also appears to be giving lessons in this same room.

In Hong Kong a 24 year old bitcoin millionaire Wong Ching Kit owner of Facebook page Epoch Cryptocurrency decided to be generous. He is also know online as “Coin Young Master”.

On 15 Dec 2018 (Sat), Wong live-streamed his prank. “Does anyone here believe that money can fall from the sky?” after which he points his camera to the top of a building where HK$100 bills were flying down like snow flakes.

As the money dropped to the ground, people tried to grab the money bills causing a frenzy. Some others were using the smart devices to capture the scene.

However on Sunday, Wong was arrested when he arrived in his Lamborghini sports car at Sham Shui Po. Wong had with him  stack of HK$500 bills.

Wong was detained for causing disorder in a public place.

Drone suspected to have collided with Boeing 737 passenger plane

A Boeing 737 passenger plane may have collided with a drone. According the the crew members, they heard a “pretty loud bang” just before the plane was about to land.

The pilots were able to land the Boeing 737 plane safely without any injuries.

Pictures shared on social media shows that the plane’s nose has been damaged.

As shown in the picture, there is a lack of blood or feathers on the damaged area of the plane’s nose. This leads to a flying drone being the main suspect of the collision.

Johnson & Johnson shares drop due to asbestos investigations

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) shares plunge more than 10% on 14 Dec 2018 (Friday) after a media reported that the company knew that some of its baby powder contained small amounts of asbestos.

Investigations by Reuters found that J&J was aware of trace amounts of asbestos as early as in the 1971, however J&J did not openly disclose this information.

J&J strongly rejected this claim and countered that the claims was “one-sided, false and inflammatory”. and that the article was a “conspiracy theory,” J&J continued to comment that “Johnson & Johnson’s baby powder is safe and asbestos-free.”

Whats the deal about Asbestos?

Asbestos a highly heat-resistant fibrous silicate mineral that can be woven into fabrics. If a person happens to breathe in this fibres, it can get stuck deep within their lungs and cause damage to it.

The most common health issues that may occur due to are asbestosis and mesothelioma.


So why does the baby powder contain Asbestos?

Many baby powder made from talcum or corn starch. So lets just narrow down to the ones made from Talcum.

Talcum is made from talc,  which is a mineral made up mainly of the elements magnesium, silicon, and oxygen. It absorbs moisture well and helps cut down on friction, making it useful for keeping skin dry and helping to prevent rashes.

Talc, like asbestos, is a natural mineral, and its mined from the earth. The mined Talc may contain some traces asbestos.

Legal Cases

In July 2018, J&J was ordered to pay damages amounting to US$4.7 billion to a group of 22 women who claim to have have developed ovarian cancer after using J&J’s powder.

Apparently some women use the baby powder and apply it to their genital area or use with sanitary pads or tampons.

Overtime repeated applications of the baby powder, talc particles over time made their way to the women’s ovaries which may have been the reason why they developed Ovarian Cancer. Some studies have found that women who used talcum powder had an increased risk of this kind of cancer.

Somewhere in western Germany, liquid chocolate leaked out from a defective storage tank and spilled onto the road.

Because the road was cold, the liquid chocolate quickly hardened up coating the road in what would be a scene from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

About 25 firefighters came to the scene use shovels and dig out the hardened chocolate off the road. They also used fire torches and hot water to try to melt out the chocolate and wash the chocolate away.

The employees of DreiMeister factory, where the incident occurred also assisted with the cleanup work.

DreMeister CEO Markus Luckey said that if the incident happened closer to Christmas, it would have been a catastrophe.

Google is now in the Spotlight when Representative Zoe Lofgren asked a question: “Right now if you Google the word ‘idiot’ under images, a picture of Donald Trump comes up. How would that happen? How does search work so that would occur?”

This question was asked to Mr Sundar Pichai the CEO of Google, who answered that Google crawled and stored billions of pages in its index, takes the keyword, matches it against webpages and then ranks them.

He said things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it and based on that at any given time we try and rank and find the best result for any search  query.

After which Representative Zoe Lofgren asked: “So it’s not some little man sitting behind the curtain figuring out what we’re going to show the users?”

To that Mr Sundar Pichai replied “Last year we saw over 3 trillion searches, we don’t manually intervene on any given search result.”

Out of curiosity we went to test this and searched for the word “Idiot”. Guess what we got.

We did really see images of President Donald Trump’s. This was something we did not expect to see.

We went on further to check if this was isolated to Google search. So we went to compare the results with two other popular search engines, Bing and Yahoo.

We thought it was only happening on Google search. We did not expect to see the same results on Bing or Yahoo Search.

Which brings us some questions. Was only Google being question on this? What about other search engine giants? Will they be called to explain the same question to Congress?

Roger the ripped Kangaroo has died age 12

The world has lost another world famous icon. This time its a kangaroo named Roger from Australia living at Kangaroo Sanctuary. The kangaroo was 12 years old when he died.

Roger became famous back in 2015 when a photo of him crushing a metal bucket went viral, which many commented it was like crushing a paper cup.

In 2006 when Roger was just a joey (baby kangaroo), his mother was killed in a car accident. Chris Barnes then rescued Roger from his mother’s pouch. Later Chris went to set up a sanctuary for Roger to live in.

Over time Roger grew up to be more than 2m tall and weighted 89kg. Roger’s uniqueness is his ripped chest which earned him the nickname Roger the ripped kangaroo.

Roger is the alpha male in the Kangaroo Sanctuary where he is staying and has 12 partners.

About a year ago the sanctuary revealed that Roger was starting to show signs of old age. Among the conditions was arthritis , weight lost and failing eye sight.

After Roger’s death, Chris Barnes said that the Kangaroo was buried in the Sanctuary, so that “he will always be here”, and be close to his family.

 

 

United States cows challenge Knickers’ title of size!

Looks like Knickers the biggest cow has some competition going on. That’s right, meet Otis and Milo, two cows over in the United States Mississippi appears to be the challenger of size!

Move over Knickers or should we say “Moo”ve over. you maybe the biggest in Australia, but not the biggest in the world.

All 3 cows were also originally meant for slaughter. As for the United States pair Otis and Milo were headed for slaughter when Bubba Pinkard, cattleman brought them to his pasture.

Bubba Pinkard runs BS Farms located in McVille, Mississippi.

Both the United States cows eat around 100 pounds of range cubes a day in addition to hay.

“I saw that Knickers, they had him in a pen with a bunch of what I call yearlings,” said Pinkard. “They were young cows, young calves and if I put this one against a young calf, he’s gonna look huge.”

“You have to be careful around them because they’re so strong that they do not know their own strength and they will hurt you especially with their horns,” said Pinkard. “They’ve stabbed me several times with their horns.”

On a side note, we noticed that the name Milo and Otis seems to be adapted from a Japanese comedy drama about cat and dog of the same name. The name of the drama is “The Adventures of Milo and Otis”

Child, 5, blaze victim makes wish to Santa for a new face

Meet Bakhtiyer Sindrov, a 5 year old boy who is making this wish to Santa. He is a blaze victim which left him seriously burnt when he was a baby.

Bakhtiyer’s face was so badly disfigured that his parents cover him with a blanket when they go out with him.

For many years he was fed through a tube that caused his teeth to rot as he could not open his mouth.

Bakhtiyer is unable to write thus asks his father to help him write a letter to Father Christmas.

  • “Hello Father Christmas! I was burned when I was a little boy. I lost my face in the fire and since then I have to hide from people because they are scared of me.”
  • “I am scared of myself when I am looking in the mirror. I do not have a nose, ears or hair.”
  • “My mum says that I will not go to school.”
  • “I am often in pain, but I do not cry. My mother does.”
  • ‘Father Christmas, give me a new face, please, I will never cry in my life then. I just want to be like other children.’

Bakhtiyer family is too poor to afford treatment for his condition. Only recently he began treatment after NGO learned about his situation by chance.

So far the boy has been given new lips, teeth and eyelids.

In July this year, doctors inserted implants into his neck to stretch his skin.

It will be used to replace the facial skin that had been completely burned off.

He will be undergoing surgery later in December this year.

This is really a heart breaking story that we learn about. Probably one of the best wishes any kid can wish for this year.

We hope that the doctors will do their best to help grant his wish of having a decent face so he does not have to avoid public.

This is a clear example of why you should never leave your child un-attended especially near a fire.
