Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Spider-Man isn’t just doing well. It’s doing numbers nobody expected, and by the time you read this, it may have already made history.
The short version: Spider-Man: Brand New Day is on the verge of breaking the all-time U.S. domestic box office record for Spider-Man movies and Marvel films alike — a record that’s stood since 2015.
How we got here
The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland alongside Zendaya and Sadie Sink, opened July 31, 2026 across 4,487 theatres in the U.S. It didn’t ease into the box office — it kicked the door down:
- Opening weekend (Jul 31–Aug 2): $360.1 million domestically, beating Avengers: Endgame‘s $357.1 million to become the biggest domestic opening of all time.
- 6 days in: Crossed $1 billion globally — the second-fastest film ever to do it, behind only Endgame (3 days).
- 19 days in: Passed $800 million domestic, beating Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ previous record of 23 days.
- Aug 9: Crossed $2 billion worldwide — the 8th film in history to do so.
- Sept 4–5 (36 days in): Crossed $900 million domestic — the fastest film ever to hit that mark, and only the second film ever (after The Force Awakens) to get there at all.
As of September 9, the film sits at $924.9 million domestic and $2.411 billion worldwide, putting it third all-time globally — behind only Avatar ($2.9B) and Avengers: Endgame ($2.7B).
The record in its sights
The one number everyone’s watching: The Force Awakens‘ $936.6 million domestic total, set back in December 2015 and untouched for almost a decade. Brand New Day is currently only about $12–13 million short of it — and still playing in over 3,500 theatres 40 days into release. Analysts expect it to break the record within days.
Why it matters
A record this old getting broken is rare on its own — but doing it in the age of streaming, ticket price fatigue, and “theatrical is dying” think-pieces makes it more notable. Whatever Sony and Marvel did with this one — genuine nostalgia for Holland’s Peter Parker, the comic-accurate moments fans have been asking for, or just really good word of mouth — it clearly worked.
If you haven’t caught it yet, it’s still running in Singapore cinemas across GV, Cathay, Shaw, Filmgarde and WE — so there’s still time to be part of the record-breaking crowd. And if you’re wondering where the story goes from here, we’ve already looked at what’s next for Spider-Man after Brand New Day.
