Dutch actor Rutger Hauer, who portrayed “Roy Batty” in 1982’s Blade Runner Science fiction film has died at the age of 75.
According to the actor’s website rutgerhauer.org, Rutger Hauer passed away peacefully at his Dutch home on Friday 19 Jul 2019 after a short illness.
Rutger Hauer’s funeral was held on Wednesday.
Rutger Hauer was born on 23 January 1944 in Breukelen, near Amsterdam, in the Netherlands during World War II while his home country was under German Occupation.
“I was born in the middle of the war.” Rutger Hauer explained in an interview. “and I think for that reason I have deep roots in pacifism.”
“I once owned a gun, but the thought of using it so appalled me that I threw it away. I am very strong, but the only thing I could kill is a fly”.
Rutger Hauer performance in 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner was the actor’s most famous role, in which he delivered the famous monologue line “Like tears in rain”.
“I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.” as he tells Rick Deckard portrayed by actor Harrison Ford in Blade Runner.
Rutger Hauer also starred in other shows and films such as Ladyhawke, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Batman Begins.
