Heavy snow in Hokkaido, Japan has caused many flights to be canceled at New Chitose Airport near Sapporo, Japan.

Two of the airport’s runway had to be closed due to the heavy snow fall. More than 20cm fell on Saturday 05 Jan 2019.

The heavy snow fall on Saturday caused 105 flights to be canceled and about 2,000 people had to spend the night at the airport.

Next day Sunday, 17 flights were canceled and 260 flights were delayed.

Most flights through Monday are fully booked so the stranded passengers might not be able to book new tickets until Tuesday, according to airline officials.
