A 19 year old gunman entered a United States San Diego synagogue crowded with Sabbath worshipers on Saturday (27 Apr 2019) yelling anti-Semitic slurs.
The gunman opened fire with an assault-style rifle. One woman was killed and three others were wounded in the synagogue shooting.
27 Apr 2019 was the Sabbath and the last day of Passover, a holiday that celebrates Jewish Freedom.
The 19 year old is a white male whose identity was not immediately made public fled the scene by car.
The San Diego police chief said that after the shooting, the gunman called the California Highway Patrol to report his location. He then surrendered to police officer who was responding to the synagogue attack.
Saturday’s Passover violence followed a recent spate of deadly attacks on houses of worship around the world.
Just last week on 21 Apr 2019, Sri Lanka had been struck by 8 suicide bombings on easter sunday that killed at least 200 people.
And last month on 15 Mar 2019, a gunman opened fire in at two mosques Christchurch New Zealand killing 50 people while worshippers were attending Friday prayers.
